Go for the ability to weild a dragon dagger and dragon scimitar by doing the Lost City and Monkey Madness quests respectively. Green to black is typically very cheap and an ok substitute for melee armor or it was a few years ago when I was constantly making new characters. It goes from green, blue, red, black, blessed in order of defense and range level. There is also dragonhide armor which is for people using ranged/archery. or from certain monster drops although you're probably a little bit away from being able to challenge the specific monsters for those.
